Designer. Artist. Visionary. Composer.
Translator. Creator. Communicator. Thinker. Doer. Initiator. Organizer.
The first design experience I can remember
was when I was 10'ish. I moved my bedroom to the half story space in my parents' colonial 1 1/2 story home. It
was the biggest room in the home running the entire length of the house with the characteristics of a loft -- I could
arrange it anyway I wanted. And I did -- always moving my furnishings around. Since we only had 1 bathroom (can
you imagine!) on the first floor, my parents decided to put a half bath in my room. And they let me pick everything
out, determining the placement. I used an existing dormer with a view over the woods, selected a brown water closet
and brown sink -- much to the objection of my mother, since it would be hard to keep looking clean. She was right,
but it was totally worth the extra time because I loved it. I surrounded the sink with an orange vanity top and
added a freestanding kidney-shaped makeup table in white lacquer with a brown shag area rug at my feet . Now
you probably can guess my age! That was how it all began.
To this day, I love the feeling of being
in open, loft-like spaces that are elevated like you are floating. I love the sounds of water like raindrops on
the roof and the energy of bold, contrasting colors. My personal style is clean, simple, modern, with artistic details.
In my home, I balance the elements and energies of nature -- wood, fire, earth, air, and water -- to bring me
to a place where everything is in harmony. This allows me to venture into the world designing for my clients
with an open perspective picking up on what my clients want and translating that into an interior that supports them
uniquely. I've been blessed with gifts and opportunities that I bring to all my designs - artistry, organization,
vision and caring. Quality design is all about understanding people and creating a better lifestyle.
I had a client say to me one time,
"You must have the same style as me; everything you present to me I just love." I commented that actually
we didn't, but because I surround myself with spaces that inspire me to be creative, open, and appreciate differences, I
am able to know her and know what she will love. She paused for a moment and continued, "That is the trademark
of a great designer then -- when you think your designer has the exact same taste as you and you wouldn't even guess they
didn't!"
